We are looking for a Data Analyst to join Care in Action and NDWA's Data team ahead of the 2022 election cycle (and beyond!). This is a full-time permanent position, not a temporary or cycle hire. We want to invest in this role to grow within the organization and play a key role in supporting the implementation of data-driven practices throughout our teams. 


Sitting on the Data team, the Data Analyst will work to support our Field programs in the seven states: Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. They will work closely with our Field, Digital, and Operations teams. Campaigns will include GOTV efforts, voter registration, volunteer recruitment, candidate endorsements, and advocacy campaigns.  The Data Analyst will primarily support the maintenance of reporting dashboards, handle data cleanup and quality control, as well as support analysis to inform necessary program pivots and inform progress to goals.


Primary responsibilities: 

  • Maintain target universes for our various states based on program goals
  • Manage reporting dashboards to track universe saturation, voter contact attempts, progress to goals, etc. 
  • Support data analysis per campaign to identify opportunities for optimization of contact method, tool, message, etc
  • Identify and fix data quality issues in our dataset
  • Support data transfers between tools and databases as needed
  • Build other reporting tools as needed including tracking of phone bank minutes and fundraising reports
  • Maintain documentation around all SQL including definitions and assumptions made 


Required skills:

  • Advanced SQL skills to support building targeting universes, providing toplines, maintaining reporting pipelines, and unioning data from different sources (Civis Platform is used to query and automate workflows)
  • Experience creating target universes from the voter file (at least 1 campaign cycle)
  • Resilient work style that can support rapid response demands especially in election periods
  • Willingness to ask questions and ask for support when stuck
  • Comfort collaborating on and sharing code
  • Proactive approaches to identifying and recommending improvements 
  • Experience or interest in growing data visualization tools such as Google Data Studio or Tableau
  • Commitment to progressive values like economic justice, racial justice, and gender justice
  • Belief in the leadership and political power of women of color, especially Black and Indigenous women


Preferred (or willing to learn!) skills:

  • Knowledge of best practices for utilizing the voter file and models
  • Experience targeting low propensity voters of color
  • Exposure to the data outputs of EveryAction and VAN systems
  • Experience managing recurring ETL workflows
  • Experience auditing tables for accuracy
