The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) is the nation’s leading voice for respect, recognition and labor standards for nannies, housecleaners and home care workers. Through leadership development, strategic campaigns and alliance building, we are raising employment standards for the domestic workforce while building a powerful movement for social and global justice. The Alliance formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum. For the first several years of its existence, NDWA was solely a network of affiliate organizations, independent local domestic worker organizations. In 2016, NDWA launched a membership association to allow domestic workers around the country--including in locations where there is no local organization--to join NDWA, helping the domestic worker movement build the power necessary to successfully advance an ambitious agenda. NDWA is currently made up of 60 affiliate organizations, 4 chapters, 3 organizing projects, and a network of thousands of individual workers throughout the U.S.
NDWA seeks a Digital Campaigner to use social media platforms and online advocacy tools to build, grow and activate online communities to connect domestic workers to the organization and our campaigns, and to each other. The Digital Campaigner’s main focus will be developing online domestic worker leadership, and online and online-offline mobilization of domestic workers in NDWA’s campaigns.
- Utilize online technologies, specifically social media communities or other digital tools, to build a broad base of domestic workers, including telegraphing opportunities for workers to be active and involved in local and federal policy and industry campaigns and supporting workers using online tools to take those actions.
- Monitor NDWA’s worker-facing online presence; respond to worker inquiries; identify, assess and act on trends in how workers relate to NDWA in online spaces.
- Maintain private member social conversations, including community moderation and content generation.
- Execute digital strategies for worker recruitment and conversion to active membership.
- Understand and apply data-informed decision making, including analysis, reporting, and targeting.
- Identify potential domestic worker digital leaders. Train a core group of leaders on digital organizing, advocacy and networking skills, and support these leaders in carrying out online leadership roles
- Track worker engagement across digital channels and utilize analysis for audience understanding, targeting and refinement.
- Support the development, delivery and facilitation of online programming and digital learning and connection.
- Create and maintain weekly reporting, including data analysis and metrics.
- Write as needed for online ads, video scripts, websites, SMS, and email.
- Minimum 3 years digital experience, ideally with online organizing or managing online communities.
- A native or fluent and culturally competent Spanish speaker; excellent writing, translation and interpretation skills in both Spanish and English.
- Excellent time management skills, including ability to meet deadlines, work successfully in a team, handle supervision, and attention to detail
- Strong research and communication skills.
- Willingness to be coached, experiment, apply lessons and iterate on the work continuously.
Data and tech qualifications:
- Proficiency in strategic use of Facebook and other social media platforms, as well as social media management systems and online tools. Direct experience with Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp a plus.
- Familiarity with digital organizing strategies and online to offline organizing.
- Familiarity with data informed online organizing, including multi-channel digital engagement tracking, list segmentation and CRMs. Direct experience with Action Network, Relay, Mobile Commons, Quickbase and/or other advocacy platforms a plus.
- Comfortable working with online campaign tools: including basic coding in HTML, the ability to use queries to segment emails to include and exclude key constituencies, and set up A/B experiments.
- Familiarity with digital strategies for engaging communities with limited access to technology.
- Experience as a digital or field organizer for a social justice organization.
- Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people as well as an understanding of the daily challenges faced by low-income communities of color; previous experience working with marginalized communities or domestic workers.
- Experience with leadership development, popular education methodology, and strong facilitation/training skills.
