The National Domestic Workers Alliance (www.domesticworkers.org) organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition and labor standards. We work to guarantee labor protections for domestic workers by winning legislation at the state level, pushing for regulatory changes at the national level, through culture change work, and by elevating domestic workers as key leaders in building a powerful movement for social and global justice. The Alliance formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum and currently represents 65 local affiliate organizations, 5 local NDWA-run chapters, and a growing number of domestic workers in our national membership association.
The primary focus of the Affiliate Engagement Manager’s work will be to coordinate the participation and leadership of NDWA’s affiliate organizations in national campaigns, programs, capacity building initiatives, and creative digital actions. NDWA members are involved in numerous local, state, and national campaigns related to coronavirus response, raising standards for domestic workers, stopping workplace sexual harassment, immigrant rights, civic engagement, and other issues that are priorities for NDWA. In the current moment, with most of the Alliance’s work happening online, creative digital actions are one of the core ways NDWA raises the visibility of campaign priorities, puts pressure on important targets, and uplifts the leadership of domestic workers in the movement. Depending on how conditions change in response to the coronavirus pandemic, this position could also include coordinating in-person mobilizations with members, if they are determined to be safe at some point later in the year.
In addition, the Affiliate Engagement Manager will be responsible for ongoing communication with NDWA’s affiliate organizations about national campaign updates, programs, and capacity building opportunities. This position will be part of the Lead Field Team that coordinates across areas of NDWA’s field work, including affiliates, chapters, workers’ association, digital and distributed organizing projects. The Affiliate Engagement Manager will also work closely with staff of the different national and local campaigns, as well as the digital and communications teams.
Work with the NDWA field team and national campaign staff to plan and execute digital actions and online/remote engagement of domestic workers and domestic worker organizers to advance campaigns.
Provide coaching and support to affiliates and chapters as needed in order to facilitate their participation in online actions, trainings, etc.
Bottomline communication and coordination with NDWA affiliates and chapters to keep them updated on national strategies and plans, facilitate their participation in digital actions, and opportunities for capacity building and other support.
Produce a weekly bilingual newsletter, facilitate weekly domestic workers webinars in English and Spanish, monitor and maintain the Whatsapp group for lead organizers from all the NDWA affiliates and chapters, and conduct one on one conversations with affiliates on a regular basis.
LIft up the work of NDWA affiliates within the Alliance and to a national audience.
Recruit and onboard new affiliate organizations to NDWA.
Collect and maintain data on NDWA affiliates, including maintenance of affiliate records in database and compiling relevant reports about affiliate led work.
Work with NDWA’s 501c4 sister organization - Care in Action - to identify and coordinate domestic worker volunteers for civic engagement opportunities like candidate forums.
Additional responsibilities as needed.
